What is Singapore?

Hey there, friends from Ghana! We are a group of young people from Singapore.

A brief description of Singapore: It is located at the tip of Malaysia, a much bigger country than Singapore.
So we live in high rise buildings as to maximise land use. Typically, we live in places like this:

(Actually these flats are a nice place to live in. :D) Yeah, they do look compact, but hey, it's really a nice place to live in. Trust us.

In Singapore, there are three main races, though others may consider four. The three races are Chinese, Malay and Indian. The Chinese makes up the majority of Singapore, while the Malays and Tamil are much lesser but still of significant note. The fourth are Eurasians.

Back to the topic of land use. Because the land space is very limited, we do not have much space for agriculture. Most of these happens in an area called Lim Chu Kang, where all the industrial factories and plants, and also agricultural and animal farms are concentrated at. Also, some interesting examples of agriculture is that aeroponics and hyrdoponics are more common. So sometimes, plants are even grown on rooftops of buildings.
Hydroponics.

Singapore is not all about land use. We have lots of tourist destinations.
Examples include:
-Sentosa
-Singapore Flyer
-Singapore Zoo
-Jurong BirdPark
-Night Safari

Sentosa is actually an off shore island of Singapore, and there is a road linking Singapore main island and Sentosa. The whole island is a entertainment haven. There is the Underwater World, Dolphin Lagoon, Butterfly Park etc.

At the beaches, beach volleyball enthusiasts engage in an exciting game of beach volleyball! Canoeing is also available. Click above link for more information on Sentosa.

Singapore Flyer is the world's largest observation wheel, offering a panoramic view of Singapore when at the top of the wheel.

Singapore Zoo

The Singapore Zoo was opened in 27 June 1973. It is an open concept zoo set in a rainforest environment. The polar bear Inuka is the world's first polar bear to be born in a tropical climate.

The Jurong BirdPark features a man-made waterfall, 30m in height. This waterfall is the highest man-made waterfall in the world. The Jurong BirdPark features a wide variety of birds around the world.

Opened in 26 May 1994, the Night Safari is home to 1040 animals. It is divided into eight geographical zones, accessible either by foot or by tram. The Singapore Night Safari is also the world's first night safari.

Some facts about Singapore:

-Singapore has 63 offshore islands of which most of them are unhabited.
-Singlish is a mix of English, Chinese, Malay, and even Tamil, Chinese dialects well understood by most of us.
-As mentioned, Singapore is very densely populated, and is second only to Monaco.
-Singapore is very small, hence it earned the name of "Little Red Dot", a remark made by former Indonesian president B.J. Habibie in a disparaging manner. Singapore is one of the 20 smallest countries in the world.
-The highest point on the island is Bukit Timah Hill, at 164 meters.

-The Merlion (above) is the national icon of Singapore. It is a cross between a lion and a fish.
-The Bukit Timah Nature Reserve has more species of trees than all of North America combined. Quality not quantity!

Well, that's all for this post. More posts in the near future!
